Washington, D.C. is one of the
most influential cities… ..in the world. Living in Washington, D.C.
is amazing because… ..you have so many
different cultures and… ..different nationalities. So
it’s a great opportunity… ..to meet people. Well, Washington, D.C. is… ..an incredible place to go to
school because it offers… ..students a laboratory of
experiences in that… ..it’s the location of a lot
of international organizations… ..including embassies from
their home country. Food, shopping, and sightseeing, et cetera.
It’s filled with a lot of stuff. Anyone can find what they’re
interested in here. Usually, it’s kinda tough
leaving your family behind… ..but now I didn’t have a problem
with that because… ..coming to an accelerator
program I know I have some… ..place to go to if I
have issues. The International Accelerator
Program is a unique… first-year experience designed
for international students… ..to help them bridge the
linguistic, cultural, social… ..and academic culture of
U.S. higher education. And to help them adjust to
American universities in particular. The Accelerator Program
is amazing because… ..it gets you in a university… ..and you’re kind of a
regular freshman. Our students living on campus
are paired with an American roommate… ..and this allows them to
integrate into the culture of the campus… ..quite seamlessly. The Student Support
Services are great here. They understand you
perfectly always… ..and they look forward
to helping you. We very much, meet the
students where they are when… ..they arrive. We really show
them quite a lot. Bring services to them; bring
banks to them. Being in the Accelerator
Program helped… a soft landing into the
whole college life. Over the course of
the program… ..we teach them to be more and
more independent so that… ..by the end they are able
to stand alone. They’re confident. They have the
academic skills. They have… ..the resources, and know
how to use the resources… ..at the university to really
help them succeed.
