The earth isn't a closed system and neither is a spaceship. Oh no, we're running low on air! Electrolyze water into hydrogen and oxygen. Oh no, we're running low on water! Grab an ice asteroid and pull it into your cargo bay. Oh no, we're running low on fuel! Scoop some hydrocarbons off a gas giant. Oh no, we need metal and silicon to build parts with! Grab a rock asteroid and carve it up. Reply Lee Dile says: September 4, 2019 at 11:47 am I LIVE IN BIOSPHERE 1, AND THESE PEOPLE ARE GETTING ON MY LAST NERVE FOREAL Reply P. Team plant Reply Roderik V says: September 9, 2019 at 12:53 pm In our opinion it’s a very interesting idea because it can be useful in the future. It can give us the opportunity to survive when the Environment doesn’t. And because it seems impossible now that doesn’t mean it still is in the future. Reply Baert Emile says: September 9, 2019 at 12:54 pm The biosphere can be successful if there is a solution for the oxygen problems and there is enough space. If you have to go to space with a biosphere you have also the problem that you need loads of materials for it. However the people must live in peace or the whole biosphere while fail. Reply Andres Ghekiere says: September 9, 2019 at 12:54 pm We think, it’s a good idea to use ‘Biosphere 2’ for new scientific research. It can be very useful in the future for surviving in another way, on a different planet. We are very exited to see what it will become. Science says that long before humans or other creatures even existed to breathe it, oxygen was slowly building up in the earths atmosphere over some 1billion years. Even though trees can produce oxygen, its possible with modern deforestation that we are slowly depleting our planets vast supply at a rate that cant be replenished. 7+Billion people is a ridiculous number. I seriously doubt we are in a sustainable position and global suffocation sounds pretty awful. Humans have this habit of blowing off problems until they are forced to answer them though, so good luck. Funny to watch atheist and agnostic people replace Christianity and Catholicism with environmentalism the newest religion. Really shows how the average person whether they believe it or not need to have something in their life bigger then themselves they believe in fully. Environmentalism is not science it is a religion. Taking care of the environment is important but do not listen to cult like minded environmentalist. Reply KamuiPan says: September 24, 2019 at 10:36 am HUAHUAHUAHUA, the dudes only discover that corals that make oxygen after wasting who knows how many on this project. Plants transpire more water than oxygen, they actually consume the oxygen that they produce so no, our oxygen come from coral reefs, not the amazon that's by the way the only preserve piece of woods in the world. Reply Josh Wilson says: September 29, 2019 at 1:15 am I don't mean to say that Biosphere 2 was a waste of money or time, and they've obviously learned quite a bit, but wasn't it obvious that an actual functioning facility capable of sustaining humans in space would need purposed-designed biomes like the new hydroponic set up instead of deserts, oceans, and rainforests? Seems like the original was rather whimsically designed. Reply 5thgearouttahere says: September 29, 2019 at 1:57 am Without demeaning what I'm sure were trying conditions those two people were selfish jerks. There was surely an emergency exit protocol, couldn't they have just asked to leave?edit There were paid tours! They could have just walked out without destroying the experiment. Shame. Reply Enzo Ferrari says: September 29, 2019 at 1:46 pm The largest experiment on earth are humanoids, and its close to fail as never were… Reply daniel armstrong says: September 29, 2019 at 3:02 pm Seems like their agenda blinded them. The "experiment" shows one important result…..humans are the variable that generates the problem areas, both in a closed and open system. Much can still be learned from continued use of this facility however the denial that humans consume their environment rather than becoming part of it is a glaring lack of understanding. Reply Craig Mooring says: October 5, 2019 at 11:14 pm No, you didn't answer the question "How do vending machines work?" because you got sidetracked by live/dead food issue. Also no: it would not be dangerous for the crab that falls in a vending machine because it probably falls a distance of four feet or less unless it accidentally jams an appendage into a crevice on the way down. It wouldn't have built up enough velocity for the impact to do damage. Reply Mark Fleener says: October 6, 2019 at 3:45 am They didn't even make the dome big enough to contain the trees. This is pretty pathetic. They must've had some real idiots in charge of the design. 13:19 That's definitely not producing enough of the stuff he mentioned to support one person. Biosphere 2 will fail for the same reason, they need a large body of water at least 6 times the size of the biosphere producing oxygen from plankton or algae just like the earth does. Why? Reply JohnandEve Foster says: October 14, 2019 at 12:01 pm what about insects? they are an extremely important part of life, i was waiting the entire time to find out what kind of insects they had living there… that lung was freaking awesome !!!! this billionaire that created this or paid for it and owns it..is missing out on the best part… that would be living in it… if he doesn't want it anymore i would love to live there with my family No, but seriously… instead of putting a bunch of strangers in there , they should have put a large family… for instance my husband and i have 7 children and one grandbaby .. in all there are 13 of us… Me my husband, our three sons and one son that married our oldest daughter . Two of our sons have wives, no children yet.. and then Sarah who is a preteen, then a 5 year old and a two year old and a one and a half year old baby granddaughter … We have amazing relationships with one another… living in there would never tear us apart… my point is you guys need to find a group of people who truly Love one another, that seek out to serve the other person rather than themselves… if you gather together people who really don't know or care about the people they are with, there will always be a disaster . Just like there is so much we don't know about the Earth, to recreate it, there is also some serious ignorance when it comes to picking the people to live in this place. But what a beautiful place … there are so many questions that i have.. Does it rain in there naturally? Where are the bugs? What kind of marine life is in the ocean? Do you also have lakes and rivers, streams, creeks? i never even saw a butterfly… where are the animals.. why did it run out of oxygen ? Reply JohnandEve Foster says: October 14, 2019 at 12:08 pm so you guys did this to see if we could live like this in space… can you imagine getting ALL that there? that would even break the billionaires bank 50 times over… that is just an insane idea Reply maximumrisk2004 says: October 14, 2019 at 4:57 pm I think these Biospheres are very important for our Survival.
