I Love This Place | Binghamton University
I think it was somewhere during my last spring semester: spring 2016 . . . Where I realized that, this is where home is right now. When I see the countryside, I’m walking down the spine on campus . . . It’s just amazing. The Nature Preserve during the fall semester . . . It’s beautiful. I love going there. And, the campus itself. It’s been built, I think . . . in a way that really attracts people. My name is Plash Sachdeva. I’m a graduate student in the Computer Science Department and I’m from New Delhi, India. Academically, I was struggling because it was a huge change. My first semester was very horrible – (Laughs). But it grew on me. That’s what I tell people. It grew on me. I realized, how being elected as President of the GSO was when, you know, I realized . . . “Okay. You know, you now . . . I finally have a life here.” You know. I’m working. I’m studying. I was looking at other people managing their grad school life, with their professional life . . . and, I was really happy to do that myself. [music changed] I’ll be honest. Everyone is scared. As an international student, everywhere around the United States, everyone is scared. The City of Binghamton, you know recently, there was a proposal about “Welcoming Cities” resolution . . . So, we know the, the city itself is working on making international students or immigrants . . . welcome to the city. The administration is very open to international students. They are inviting students. They are inviting applications . . . And, they are doing everything they can to support the international students on campus . . . to make them feel at home. The GSO as well as the SA have various multi-cultural organizations . . . that support international students from their respective countries. I believe what these communities really bring . . . is the opportunity to meet people from all diverse backgrounds . . . and the people I work with, the people in the administration, my faculty . . . they’ve been really, really supportive and you know . . . I started loving this place and I say this as a fact . . . I love this place right now!
