How to do a Tax Return as an International Student in Australia

Hey everyone, welcome back to Insider
Guides where we help international students who want to study in Australia.
Today’s video is all about helping international students understand what
they need to do to do a tax return in Australia. If you’ve earned money in
Australia, chances are that you do need to lodge a tax return. Now if you have
been studying here for more than six months, according to the Australian Tax
Office you are an Australian Resident for Tax Purposes.
Now that means you do actually have to declare your income on a tax
return but there are limited circumstances where you may not have to
lodge a tax return but you do need to check with the Australian Tax Office in
regards to that. Timing is important; you have between the 1st of July and the
31st of October to lodge your tax return so you’ll also need a PayG summary or
a Group Certificate and this is something that your employer will give
you at the end of your financial year, and on it it will say how much you earned
in that last financial year and how much tax was withheld. The quickest and
easiest way to lodge your tax return is to go to the ATO website which is the
Australian Tax Office and just follow the instructions there. It”s not too
hard. If I can do it you can do it. If you need help, just go to a Registered Tax
Accountant but just just make sure that they’re registered because there are
accountants out there that aren’t registered and they’re pretty sneaky so
watch out for them. If you load your tax return online you’ll probably get it
back into your bank account in about two weeks, which is awesome. I hope that video
was useful. Thank you so much for watching and please like, share, and
subscribe to this channel. Thank you so much. See ya!
