Hi, everybody its kadzowe with Kadzowefor Africa, and yes, I love pink Welcome to my channel! I just had [to] share with you my favorite color, pink… This video is [not] about my love for pink but today I’m gonna Share with you my own journey And how I was able to go to school in the United States for free So if you’re interested in that information stay tuned. The first thing [that] I did was I worked really really hard in school you know it’s interesting because from a young age when I was in Nursery school when I was in elementary school and also when I was in secondary school in my country I always tried to keep up the best grades. I didn’t know why I wanted to do well in school I just was competing with other people who were in class with me And I did have a couple of achievements for example in elementary school I did win the best certificate for my country’s national language. Which is Swahili. This is one of the reasons Why I speak very good English today because I have a passion for the languages And I want to articulate it very well and in secondary school as well I tried to do the very best with what I had and eventually when I actually went to my undergraduate school I Was able to really perform very very well within that particular arena so regardless of where you are in the process and Regardless of what level of education that you’re looking to go for free, it is important that you work very hard The second thing that I was able to do to go to college for free in the United States Was that I was heavily involved in extracurricular activities and so in particular in my situation I was able to go for free for my master’s degree, and so I will talk a little bit about the undergraduate experiences because that was the degree level before the master’s degree and so in those four years I was heavily involved in extracurricular activities and I was an international ambassador Meaning I gave tours to prospective new students because I was always there even over the Summer as an international student. I also went to neighboring schools and to talk about things like my country and my culture as an African woman and I was also involved in campus with the black student union minority affairs and the International student club So I’m giving you just a wide variety of activities where I was able to make a lot of new friends But that was actually something I was able to add into my application when I was Applying and was able to go for my Master’s degree for free. The third thing I did that really allowed an opportunity for me to go to school for free, was an ability to write a very effective personal statement You know it’s interesting as international students sometimes we don’t share who we really are. For example for me, Believe it or not. This is actually true. I am the first woman in my village in Africa to be able to get a masters degree now I grew up in the city now my mom and dad left the rural area and they lived in the city But I never really went into my roots and so one of the things I did as I was growing up I started feeling really really proud about where I come from and in my country, we usually go with the father’s side of the family and take the father’s last name and so even though my parents were from two different tribes I really resonated with the tribe from my father’s side of the family and So I talked about that in my personal statement to the schools in the United States I talked about the girls in my village I talked about how I would be able to be an inspiration to them which I am and I really talked about my grandfather and his journey in helping my father go to school And I also talked a little bit about my mother’s side of the family and my grandfather on my mother’s side And how he was such an inspiration because he was a very popular Businessman, and he did very very well So I talked about my drive and motivation and how my family in Africa has helped me the personal story, personal Connection That’s what schools are wanting to look at. who are you? where do you come from? and that Ended up working really well I would say one of the other things and this would be the fourth thing that allowed me to go to school for free in The United States was that I actually did a very extensive Research on schools that did provide assistantships and scholarships That’s why when [you] subscribe to my channel I do provide for you a full list of those schools because even though you do not hire me and my team To be able to do the research for you I expect you to please do the research because when you have a list of schools Which is what everybody needs. You just need a list of schools to get started you can kind of go through that Information and see. That’s what I did, I spent time to look at all the schools Including the one that allowed me to go for free And I just wanted to make sure that they were able to offer scholarships to international students and that the were able to offer assistantships. In fact, I do have the video in my channel that talks about the difference between a scholarship and an Assistantship and so for me, from the two options. I decided to pursue a school that gave an assistantship Because an assistantship allowed them to Provide me money for my monthly expenses. Which is my rent and my food But also at the same time I could be of service to that particular school based on my undergraduate experiences, and so it ended up working really well for me and [that] was one of the reasons I was able to go for free. The fifth reason why I was able to go for school in the United States for free was that I actually was very careful to apply using the fiscal year method in fact I’m gonna do a video very soon because I realized a lot of people. They just apply to US schools they they don’t know that there are specific times that you should be able to apply that will increase your chances of getting a scholarship and so stay tuned for that video and So just to give you a heads up about how that all works, the fiscal year in the United States Typically begins November 15th for scholarships. The deadline you can apply is November the 15th, and I share that in my scholarships video as well in this channel and so I made sure that my application was there before November the 15th because I wanted to be early . It runs from November until April now if you wait, If there’s a more qualified person that has applied before you they might get an offer They might actually get that offer, so I have seen very many students who are more than capable, they have a high Gpa but the reason they don’t get the best type of Package is because of the timeline of when they applied, so for me I made sure that I had everything ready my letters of recommendation my personal statement my admission essay for the General admissions any test course that they were looking for whatever they had, I made sure that I had turned it on time and So that also led to that opportunity for me to be awarded a scholarship that allowed me To go to school And so folks those are the top five tips that I can share that really in my experience helped me Get a scholarship and go to a school in the United States for free So if you can think of anything that really worked well for you, please share, this is a great community Comment if you guys really enjoy these videos.
