Having a Part-time Job | Karen Acosta | University of Lincoln

Hi guys I’m Karen and welcome back to
another video for Student Life. For today’s video the topic will be having a
part-time job. During university sometimes you might feel the need to get
some extra cash maybe to buy your own things or to plan a short holiday with
your friends. Having a job is really helpful
plus it’s another way of meeting people or making new friends. Be prepared and
open to work in something different than to what you’re studying. I’m not saying
there is nothing related to your course or your career but the most common jobs
are like waitress / waitering a bar in a restaurant I was working in a hotel in a
bar in the restaurant area and actually I met some great people there.
How to get a job you will find during freshers & refreshers fayre some
employers with stands around campus and they will be handing business
cards with their information their contact details for either you to email
them or submit your CV or maybe to arrange an appointment for an interview
so that’s how I actually got my my job I wasn’t even looking for it but they
offered me like they said they had an open day for interviews and I
went so just look around for what is available for you and if it suits you
and your availability then that would be great! You can also have a
look at the Job Shop site at the University they will have lists of jobs available
either on campus or off campus. Also the library on the ground floor there is the
Careers & Employability team and they will be able to help you and guide you
through this with this Campus Jobs with registration, any documents that you
need, things regarding payment, so that’s where they will be able to help
you and you can go and ask for them. On campus there are lots of opportunities
and I think it’s it’s great I like it and maybe the obvious way as well
of getting a job is to walk go around the place a restaurant anywhere that’ll you see
that they are looking for people to hire or even if they don’t have anything on
the windows or on the doors, go over there and ask if there is anything
available for you but I recommended to go with your CV there ready so if they
ask for it then your ready but also there are lots of listing places
and then you will have to email your CV or apply through through their website
so it is not that difficult to apply really its online or in person like
people can still talk so yeah you will find something. Any extracurricular
activity that you do during University will be valued & appreciated by
an employer if you are looking to find a job after University so please do take
advantage & make the most out of your time during university doing as much as
you can and if having a part-time job will help you to save some money and
also give you the experience in certain skills then do it and you will be glad
you did and that’s all for this video hopefully it is helpful for you thanks
for following student life and until next time bye!
