>>If you support equity and sustainable
development in a world rife with inequality, environmental challenges, and political turmoil,
if you’re a resilient optimist like myself, then perhaps Global Development Studies
at Queen’s is the right fit for you. [ Music ]>>The graduate program in
Global Development Studies here at Queen’s University offers all the
advantages of bigger universities, from the ability to undertake to take
cutting edge, high impact research through to the opportunity to build skills and
networks necessary for careers in academia, in government, and in the development field. But what sets us apart here
at Queen’s is that we’re able to offer a more personalized
research environment with closer supervision and
a great sense of community. [ Music ]>>Our new PhD program builds on the
strength of our master’s program. It offers flexible program options, you
can do your MA in one year or two years, or you could advance to the
PhD program after one year.>>At the end of my first year of my master’s
degree I knew I wanted to continue with the PhD. I was offered advanced standing, which meant
that I could move along faster if I wanted to.>>I decided to do the two
year master’s program, because I wanted to do deep theoretical
research as well as field work. I’m really excited by the wide variety
of careers that are on offer to me after graduation including
working for government or development institutions and agencies.>>One of the things I like best about
Queen’s is that everyone gets a chance to participate and be heard in the classroom. We really get to know each other well. All of our professors are experts
who are active in their field. We learn firsthand from them and
have an opportunity to participate in projects all around the world. Kingston is the perfect place
for graduate studies. It’s ranked by the BBC as one of the
world’s leading university towns. It’s located centrally between
Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto. The quality of life is one of the
main reasons that students choose to do their graduate studies here at Queen’s. [ Music ]
