going back to college (my first dorm & getting honored by MSU)

– Hi everyone! My name is Tyler Oakley,
and we are reaching the end of the Going Home series. Thank you so much for
tuning in and watching all eight episodes of Going Home. It has been the most
fun, incredible adventure to take you on a journey
back, and introduce you to the people, and the places that made me who I am, maybe even before I ever uploaded a video. If you didn’t know, I
got my start in the dorms of Michigan State University. That is where I uploaded
my very first video. So, for today’s video,
it felt like a completely full circle moment, when I got an email that was inviting me to be the Homecoming Grand Marshall
at Michigan State. (upbeat music) So, one of the highlights
of Homecoming Week, of course, is the parade. And, part of the parade is
me, riding in the parade as the Grand Marshall. And, it says my name on
the car, right there. Which is very wild and bonkers. I’m so excited, it should be so much fun. I’ve been practicing my wave all week. A little bit of this,
a little bit of this, a little bit of that. And, my parent’s are somewhere
along the line of the parade, so I’m going to see them. All my nieces and nephews. All my friends and family are here. So, it’s home. – I’ve been watching you for so long. – Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy the parade. (upbeat music) – [Announcer] Ladies and gentlemen, the man you’ve been
waiting for all day long. This years Grand Marshall,
YouTube sensation, Tyler Oakley! (crowd cheers) – So, I’m back in East
Wilson, where I lived for all four years of my
time at Michigan State. When I stepped in to here, I had no clue what I was getting myself into. And then, when I went
up to the fourth floor, for the first time, that was my home. I’m gonna go knock on the
door and see who’s there, and go through all their
stuff, or something. Room raiders. Let’s go. (upbeat music) Hi, I’m Tyler, nice to meet you. Cute! Oh my God, this is weird. This is where my desk was, and then I had my camera facing
this way, my first video. So, my first video was me
introducing my video blog, and telling all of my
viewers, which was nobody, about my dorm room. Hey everyone, it’s Tyler, and
I just wanted to welcome you to my new video blog. It is very bizarre to be back in this room where I feel like everything started. Everything that’s happening
now, I couldn’t have even predicted, and to
be back 10 years later is very cool. So, we’re here at the MSU Dairy Store. I came here all through my time at MSU, and today they have a
flavor named after me. God is good. Can you believe I invented ice cream? The dairy industry is shook. Cows have never felt
this type of awakening. Back when I was at Michigan State, my favorite thing to do on
a Thursday, was Burgerama. It’s every Thursday,
people line up right here to go in and drink all day, responsibly. So, I feel like the most appropriate thing is to come back to Burgerama,
and celebrate homecoming the only way I know how. By buying everyone a drink. Hey everyone, my name’s Tyler Oakley. I used to go here back in the day, and Burgerama was my favorite thing ever, so to celebrate homecoming,
if you’re into it, buy everyone rounds. (crowd cheers) So, back when I went to Michigan State, I did not have the
money to pay for school, so my job was raising
money at MSU Telemarketing. It’s a bunch of student’s
that call Alumni and say, “Hey, I know you have debt, but
can you give to our school?” And, I met my first
like, college boyfriend, because I was sitting right here, and he was sitting right here. So, while both of us were
like, trying to make calls, we would stand up and
just talk to each other. Love is beautiful and it
happens at telemarketing. I used to work here, and
I was so bad at my job. So, if you’re bad, it’s
not the end of the world. It can all turn around. I just wanted to swing by
and maybe make a few calls, if you need me to take
over for you, today. I can do that. Oh, everyone is suddenly happy to see me. Hi, is this Nathan? Hi Nathan, how are you doing today? My name is Tyler, I’m calling from Michigan State University. Good, we were hoping to see
if you could help us out with a one time donation of 100 dollars. Amazing, thank you so much. Okay, cool. Hello, nice to meet you. That’s a firm handshake. So, I’m here at Wells
Hall, and I’m about to go hang out with a bunch of students. I have an event tonight
where I get to just, hang out and gossip, and giggle. It’ll be a fun time. (crowd cheers) Oh my God, the last time I was in here I was in class. (upbeat music) – Go green – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green. – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green. – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green. – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green. – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green. – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green. – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green. – [Crowd] Go white. – Go green! – [Crowd] Go white! (audience applauds and cheers) – We’re here at the homecoming game, it’s halftime, we’re about to go out, and I guess say hi to 75,000 people. The very first time, when I realized that some people might be watching my videos, was at one of these games. I was here, I knew
75,000 people were here, and I was like, I have
more subscribers than that. It’s very surreal to be back and home. (upbeat music) – Our 2017 Homecoming Grand
Marshall, Tyler Oakley. (crowd cheers) (upbeat music) So that is it. Thank you so much for
watching all of the episodes of the Going Home series. I feel like I’ve been
pouring my heart and soul, flying back and forth from
California to Michigan to go film these episodes, and I am so happy with how
all of them turned out. I hope that you liked this
series as much as I did. And, to be able to go back
and honor those places, and say, “Girl, you made me, me. “How dare you, and also thank you.” Has been like a really
nice little feeling. If you like this video,
give it a thumbs up, and let me know in the comments, what was your favorite
episode of the series so far. Was it me going back and
working at McDonalds, maybe me going back to my high school, maybe the tour of my hometown, me reacting to videos of
my best friend, or my mom? Let me know. I want to know, put it
in the comments below. Okay, so that is all I
have for you guys today. Again, thank you for watching Going Home. It means a lot to me. That’s all, okay, bye friends.
