Everett Community College Student Spotlight – International Student Huy Ho

My name is Huy and I grew up in Da Nang, Vietnam
and the reason that brought me to the U.S. is I want to learn about why the U.S. is the
fastest developed country in the world. I chose EvCC because first, I was about to
study aviation here but I decided to switch to business, so I’m now a business major. I love the language of business and I love
what people can do under the field of business so I decided to study it further and see what
I can do from there. I’m transferring to WSU, Washington State
University in Pullman. I heard about their hospitality program, because
I work in the business field so I might as well try to find something that kind of match
me because I’m a person that likes to talk to people, so I think that working under the
hospitality management field will give me more opportunity to communicate and to interact
with more people. As an International student the biggest challenge
that I’ve faced here is the language barrier because speaking different language that is
not your native tounge is such a kind of hard thing to do. Sometimes you want to express something but
you just can’t. It’s just hard to communicate and interact
with people the way that you did before in your country. I also have culture shock and am homesick
and especially I miss the food in my country. In my free time I like reading books, watching
movies, hanging out with friends and especially doing exercise, or gym. Exercising helps me a lot. It’s helped me, not only with my mentality
but also physically like before coming here I was kind of like skinny but now I’m more
confident because of the changes I see in my body. There’s one quote that I really like: “Waking
up with determination and go to bed with satisfaction.” I’ll say thank you to the professors and instructors
and advisors here and the International staff. And the dearest thanks to my friends here. Without them I cannot be who I am right now.
