ALIAH:TODAY STUDENTS USED THE ARTS AND SHARED THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES TO REMEMBER THE 2 MONTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DAYTON MASS SHOOTING. TONIGHT, THEY SHARE HOW AND WHY THEY GOT TOGETHERE MORE THAN 10 DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS TO GET THE ATTENTION OF THEIR LEGISLATORS. SHEA HEATH / UD STUDENTS DEMAND ACTION TODAY MARKS 2 MONTHS SINCE THE OREGON DISTRICT SHOOTING AND WE’RE STILL WAITING ON SEEING SOME LEGISLATIONUNIVERSITY OF DAYTON STUDENTS ARE RALLYING TO CONTINUE THE PUSH FOR GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION CIERRA STEWART/EVENT ORGANIZERWE FELT THAT 2 MONTHS OUT, NOT AS MANY PEOPLE WERE ACTUALLY CONTACTING PEOPLE WHO COULD MAKE THE DECISIONS TO PASS THOSE LAWS SO THAT WAS ONE OF THE MOTIVATING FACTORS FOR HOLDING THIS RALLY. THEATER STUDENTS MEMORIALIZED THE 9 VICTIMS OF THE MASS SHOOTING BY POSING AS ANGELS THROUGHOUT THE EVENT. SHEA HEATH / UD STUDENTS DEMAND ACTION I THINK IT’S REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE A VISUAL VERSUS READING THE NAMES BUT BEING ABLE TO SEE PEOPLE DRESSED AS ANGELS REPRESENTING THOSE WHO PASSED AWAY DESIREE TIMS/ 10TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT CANDIDATE WE HEAR ABOUT SOMETHING AND WE’RE FIRED UP ABOUT IT AND WE’RE UPSET AND THEN WE QUICKLY MOVE ON. WHAT OUR JOB IS AS A COMMUNITY HERE IN DAYTON, IN THE SURROUNDING AREAS IS TO ENSURE THAT THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN. STUDENTS SAY THEIR MAIN GOAL IS TO CONTINUE HOLDING THESE RALLIES UNTIL THEY GET THE ATTENTION OF LAWMAKERS…AND GET THEM TO DO SOMETHING. ALEX MUELLER/ UD SENIOR WE’RE NOT REALLY HAPPY WITH LAWMAKERS RIGHT NOW AND THE LACK OF ACTION WITH THIS STRICTLY AMERICAN EPIDEMIC SO I THINK WE JUST CONTINUE SHOWING UP AND SHOWING OUT LIKE THISCIERRA STEWART/EVENT ORGANIZERTHE CONVERSATION IS HAPPENING, EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT GUN VIOLENCE BUT WHO’S PASSING THE LAWS. ALIAH:STUDENTS WERE ALSO GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO REGISTER TO VOTE AT THE RALLY AND WRITE LETTERS TO THEIR LEGISLATORS VOICING THEIR CONCERNS. ALIAH WILLIAMSON 2 NEWS WORKING FOR YOU. BROOKE:TURNING TO WEATHER NOW,
