Narration: Located in the heart of Sweden,
Dalarna University is a hub of Swedish and international student activity. There are
about 50 countries represented on campus. Idriss: This university is very international.
I think it’s probably the most international environment. Fahmi: This is amazing, I mean, you come to
Sweden and you meet people from like all these places you never expected. Narration: Dalarna University offers degrees and courses in Business, Tourism, Languages, International Studies and Solar Energy Engineering. The university’s 4,000 students study on two campuses in the sister cities of Borlänge and Falun. Separated by only 20 kilometers, the campuses are intimate, and students and teachers are able
to work closely together. Frank: There’s very little hierarchy so you
can talk to your teachers and call them with their first name. Jörgen: You’re always welcome to come to
someone’s office to talk to teachers, to talk to other staff. Fahmi: I really like the informality of the
Swedish. Narration: Informal yet efficient, the Swedish
higher education system has been ranked the 2nd best in the world. Dalarna University has
two well-equipped libraries and offers student support services such as writing assistance and language groups. And almost all accepted applicants from outside the EU receive some form of scholarship. Many students also take part in off-campus activities, such as sports. Fahmi: We do many sports, like volleyball
and badminton. Fanny: I’m the activity leader of badminton
on Thursdays. It’s quite nice. We are all together, and we play sport all together. Narration: In terms of housing, Dalarna University
collaborates with several companies to provide accommodation for students in each city. Calahan: Welcome to my room. I live on the
top floor of Locus, and on this side of the top floor we have a loft that’s actually included
in the space. …a number of pieces of furniture that come with it… Here
I have a hammock, actually, that I’ve hungup myself. Here is the window to the
barbeque happening outside. Fanny: To live in community and between international
students was a great experience, I think. And I would advice this to everyone, especially
for the beginning. Fahmi: I was really lucky that I got a crazy
roommate, just like…pretty much, yeah, we’re like soulmates! Narration: While at Dalarna University, students
have the opportunity to explore the Dalarna region and the rest of Sweden, and even learn
to speak the language. Vasile: I came here with my fiancé and we’re doing Swedish together. I like the melody of the language, but then
I realized it’s very hard to learn that melody. Fahmi: We’ve been to many places, like, ski
resort like Sälen… National parks. We went also, like, up north in the Arctic
Circle, in Kiruna. That is also amazing, you see the Northern Lights. Narration: Dalarna University offers students
a comfortable and supportive study environment, and a chance to make friends from all over
the world while experiencing the beauty of Sweden. Idriss: I came to Sweden by myself. And tomorrow,
I can say I’m leaving with a lot of contacts. I met a lot of great people from around the
world, I created a big network. Mersiha: You get really good education here,
um, you have very good lecturers, and the whole environment here is very great. Calahan: The connections are incredible. It’s
invaluable, really. Fahmi: It’s been a really, really good experience.
Like, really beyond what I, my expectations.
