(President Barker)
I am so excited; I have some great news to share with the Clemson family, and here it
is: US News and World Report has just ranked Clemson as the number 22-ranked public university
in the country. There are 164 public universities in the United States, and we’re now ranked
#22. That’s up from where we were last year, the year before that. We are making steady
progress toward our goal of being the top 20. It’s in sight. Really, one more major
step to go. And this is a thank you message to all of
the parts of the Clemson family, for all of the efforts that you have made to make this
possible. To our students, what this means to you is that your Clemson degree will be
even more valuable than it’s ever been before. Your acceptance into graduate school and professional
school will increase. It means to our alumni that Clemson degree is more valuable now than
ever. It means to our faculty and staff, you will have opportunities that will unfold even
beyond what you’re doing now. It means that we’ll continue to attract great students
to Clemson, and it means that we’ll be more competitive in competitions of any form, for
grants, and so forth. And what it means, I think to all of us, is
that Clemson can work together to achieve anything. We set our sights very high, and
we’re very close to making that vision become a reality, and we couldn’t have done it
without you, and I am saying “thank you” for all your efforts, and GO TIGERS!
