Graduates of this year’s Durham Neighborhood
College are now looking for ways to put their new-found knowledge to use for their community. A graduation ceremony and engagement fair
was held for participants of the seven-week course on October 24th. The college is co-sponsored by the City and
Durham County. During the course, participants got a chance
to learn about how both local governments operate and the services that they provide. These included sessions on the environment
and sustainability, health and well-being, public safety, planning and development,
and civic engagement. During the engagement fair, participants were
able to learn about how they can become involved with the work that the City and County are
doing on a regular basis. At the end of this year’s college, 100 percent
of participants recommended the course to other residents. If you’re interested in participating in
next year’s Neighborhood College, applications will be accepted next summer. Be sure to keep checking the college’s homepage
at Durham NC dot gov slash 1159 in the spring for more information.
