BOSTES: US Colleges and Universities recruit NSW HSC students

It was a really good exchange we have
half a dozen a US university who are out here trying to
really recruit more Australian students to go to their school. The HSC is an incredibly valued credential not just here in Australia
but right around the world you can take that credential you can get a pretty much any university
around the world and they’ll recognize it value it and if you
want to go to another university or you want to go and get a job somewhere around the world probably the
most powerful thing you can have in your hand is a NSW HSC. I think having the HSC helped a lot in terms of my getting into an American universities. The reason for that is my understanding is the perception
that the agency internationally is a very good perception – the perception is
one of rigour and depth. We like the HSC very much because at competitive universities like Embry-Riddle we’re looking for people who are going to be
successful in their studies and we know that those that pursue the
HSC have the right background to be
successful show we but a very high value on it. I think is a fabulous opportunity to
share information with Australian high schoolers about really what’s on offer at United States
universities. I love representing Yale because I’d think it offers the best
undergraduate education that you can buy and sometimes you don’t
even have to buy it because the financial aid packages are so generous
and that actually is one area that I really appreciate being able to talk
about with students and their parents. There is a perception amongst a lot of
Australian families that it’s essentially impossible financially to have their children go to Ivy League schools or high cost US schools because think I would never be able to afford it
financially. In fact there are a lot of really good schools and have really good
financial aid packages. I believe that you invest in America
will give me so many more opportunities later in life – following university – like job opportunities,
internships. This is a huge growth area. I mean in the last ten years we have had literally a doubling of Australian students studying in America. My experience of studying at Yale was fantastic. It was an amazing an amazing for years an amazing opportunity. I would say the most
memorable best thing about it was the student body firstly –
incredibly diverse there was one Australian studying alongside me which was great. But also the opportunities given by the
university not only academically but in terms of travel opportunities, research grant opportunities and of course work opportunities BOSTES wants every student in every school to understand that their options include
international study. We have some the world’s best universities right here in New South Wales, but if your
horizons includes study in the United States or in Europe or in Asia or elsewhere you
need to know the HSC is recognised by every university in the world. Anywhere you might want to go the HSC offers you an open door.
