I’m Sruthi Ramadural and I’m
pursuing a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and I will be continuing
with my PhD and Biofluids Mechanics. I have been selected as Graduate Student of the Month for August 2019. While studying Aerospace engineering, I was interested in Fluid Mechanics and when I came to UC to pursue Mechanical Engineering, I felt
that it was very interesting to see how the same principles of Fluid Mechanics
that applies to an aircraft or an aerodynamic scenario also applies
to flows in the human body. I’m interested because it’s a very
interdisciplinary field which combines engineering and medicine. So I have to not just know Fluid Mechanics, I have to know Anatomy and Physiology of the
human body as well. After I finish my PhD I want to go back to India and I want to pursue teaching and research. I definitely want to do more research and
publish studies on Indian Sciences and Indian systems of medicine like Ayurveda or yoga. The main thing that motivates me is to actually impact people’s lives. I think I really want to significantly impact as many people as I can. With respect to the current work that I’m doing, I think it gives me the
skills to actually do clinical studies on holistic systems of medicine and holistic systems of health that is there in our country. I chose UC for four reasons actually UC has a very good Aerospace and
Mechanical program and my bachelor’s was in Aerospace Engineering. UC recognizes academic merit and it awards GAS to to good students who perform well. Of course, UC is a pioneer in Co-op. So definitely, I really valued combining theoretical classroom knowledge with practical industrial experience. and the fourth reason is UC has very good sustainability initiatives and I am really interested in sustainability.
