Hi I’m Alphia Possamai Inesedy I’m
an Associate Professor here at Western Sydney University in the discipline of
Sociology. Sociology at a study of Social Behaviour but it’s also looking at how,
structure of society so the way Societies are organised it’s structures, the networks
within a society can impact on Social Behaviour, can impact on human beings so
we’re very interested in ‘the individual’ but looking more at how society is
going to impact on the individual life rather than say how our biology impacts on
our ‘individual life’. The Bachelor of Social Science with a major in Sociology is a
degree that’s going to open up to you multiple potentials essentially you’ve
got three streams in this degree. The first stream is the core units so this is
the number of units that have been put together by the school that are going to
give to you knowledge around Social Research Methods, Ethics and a number
of other core units that feed into the various disciplines that are housed
within the Social Science degree. Sociology is one of those disciplines,
one of those majors and the Sociology major comprises of eight units as well so you have eight core units and then you have eight
units for subjects within the major of Sociology and those units reflect many of
the sub-disciplines within Sociology. If you’re interested in trying to
understand society and if you’re interested in trying to have an impact
on society for the better then I think Sociology would be a discipline that you follow through and
most likely want to continue to follow through into further studies.
