Ambition Institute: Teaching Leaders Programme

I signed up to the Teaching Leaders
programme because I’ve just finished from the Teach First programme and it seemed like the next step potentially you’re going to go on to become heads, maybe CEOs
so you’re already thinking about the future. Middle leaders are at the engine
room of schools they are the ones that are at the chalk face a lot and they can
have such an impact directly on many children’s lives
I’ve heard a lot of great things about it from colleagues who are actually
participating and who have participated I’m hoping to use the programme to help
develop my skills and my ability to actually lead. I want to be head of
modern languages and I think this will really help me to work well with a team.
One of the main challenges my region as a whole faces is the level of
deprivation and that gap isn’t getting any smaller. I’m worried that my age is
going to hinder my ability to implement some of my visions and some of my
strategies. The Teaching Leaders programme can really help me look at closing the
gap for our disadvantaged pupils. What I’ve been really struck by is that when I’ve done the courses and when I’ve done the seminar something will come up and
I feel like hang on a minute this happened last week this is very relevant
you know what can I take from the session make sure what I’ve learned there, I implement the next day. It gives you so many tools to really support your team and to progress it’s really helped to develop my confidence. This type of
training is really important because just because someone’s a great teacher
doesn’t necessarily make them a great leader and our business is actually
getting outcomes for our students this could be their golden ticket to success. Everything that you’ve gained is something that you can put to your real
world example. Everybody kind of needs to have that
opportunity to meet with other people from different areas not just different
schools. It’s more so that having access to a network of people that have already been
there. It is working with other teachers and listening to people
really and reflecting on what’s happened and looking at strategies to try and
help. It’s been such an important week and it’s been such an eye-opener we’ve
had so much fun here and there’s so many fantastic people. The Teaching Leaders
programme is going to develop me as a leader so I can give back to my students
and give back to my team. The Teaching Leaders programme is an exciting opportunity for me to make a difference. It’s giving me all the tools I need to
thrive in my new leadership role.
