[Birds chirping.] [The Student Tower’s bell begins to ring.] [Bittersweet, wistful acoustic music begins playing.] [Water splashing, overlayed by the music.] Lyrics: “Eyes alive like stars, flying down the boulevard.” “You’re making up your mind,” “and you’re stitching up your heart.” “We’ll meet you where the tide meets the wind.” “We’ll meet you where the tide …” “… meets the wind.” [Idle noises, boards creaking, overlayed by the continuing music.] Lyrics: “Sometimes we keep a souvenir …” “… of the memories we’ve made.” “And line them up along our shelves …” “… where nothing takes their place.” “All these worn out photographs.” “All those brave mistakes.” “They’re part of who you are now …” “… and part of how you’ve changed.” President McRobbie: “Ladies and gentleman, and members of the class of 2015 …” “… you have learned how to inhabit the life of the mind.” “Today as you become graduates of one of America’s greatest universities,” “there can be no question that you are now the torchbearers” “poised to respond to and help build our future.” President McRobbie: “By virtue of the authority invested in me,” “I am privileged and proud to confer the degrees” “recommended by the faculty with all attendant rights and responsibilities.” [Applause and cheering.] [The music ends, and fades away.]
