5 Things Every High School Graduate Should Know

5 Things Every High School Graduate Should Know

October 10, 2019 47 By Stanley Isaacs

Heya playa, if you’re part of the graduating
class this year or next year, then you’re probably wondering what life has in store
for you after high school. There are 5 important things that I learned after graduating high
school that I need to pass down and I’ll tell you what they are right after this. This is
The Josh Speaks. You’re watching The Josh Speaks. Now, I don’t want to lie to you here
and make you think that life is going to get easier because it’s not. So the first thing
that I want you to know is that while life won’t get easier, it will get better. And
when I say better, I mean that you’re done with this standard hamster wheel run that
high school makes you go through. And now you could just focus on what you want. Some
of you are going right into college while the rest of you are going right into the work
force, which is incredibly cool. For you college students, these will be the years where you
finally focus on what you want to learn. You can take classes that are in line with what
you want to learn or you can simply explore fields that you’re curious about. And for
those of you already working, you’re out there on the battlefield earning money towards the
lifestyle that you really want. The second thing is that some of your high school friends
are simply going to drift away. I know what you’re thinking. Not me and my friends, we’re
friends for life. Yes, even you and your friends. The thing is, as people move forward in their
lives, they’re opening themselves up to new social circles, environments and lifestyles.
As they move forward with their lives, it’s going to become increasingly harder for you
guys to make time for each other. Much harder than it was when you actually saw each other
in school. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing though, you can still maintain some kind of
contact with your friends. You just have to accept the graceful change of people moving
forward in their lives and accepting that you may just not see them as often. The third
point, if you’re a college student you’re going to start to see that your life will
become more focused because your schoolwork, your lifestyle, your friends will all start
to fall in line with what you want to do. If you’re interested in business, programming,
medicine, sports or art taking classes that fit those bills will allow you to excel and
improve your skill. Being able to work on something that heightens your passion is incredibly
amazing. I remember one of the best parts of my college experience was being surrounded
by like minded people that were just as driven as I was. Keep in mind, being surrounded by
people that do share the same interests did make the environment seem competitive, but
it also fueled me to want to try harder because everyone was there to learn the same thing.
The fourth thing to recognize is that as you get older, you’re gonna take on more responsibility.
That means finishing your schoolwork on time, doing your own laundry or even buying your
own groceries are all going to fall on you. In the past, your parents might have done
these things for you. I know first hand because I never did laundry in college, I would always
bring it home with me every weekend, but all of that is going to eventually change. Yes,
there are tons of you out there who don’t know how to do these things, but trust me,
there are tons of YouTube tutorials out there that can teach you. Plus, this is your point
in life to show the world that you’re ready to start adulting. And the fifth thing, on
top of everything that I mentioned is that you’re finally gonna be able to be yourself.
I remember first hand, high school carries a lot of pressure. The pressure to fit in,
the pressure to do well in school, the pressure to be in a relationship, or to be cool. Once
you graduate though, you can put those pressures aside to start to focus on more important
things like what is your path in life, what is your passion and what is your purpose?
The purpose of college, beyond just learning new things and carrying that forward in life
is to start to make changes for yourself, to start to discover who you are, what you
care about and what you want to do in this world. If you want to learn more about what
to expect in college and just life in general, check out my playlist here which I’ve put
together for all of you high school graduates to watch, learn and move forward doing the
things that you want to do. What do you think though, are you ready to graduate high school?
