2019 Graduation Highlights – Santa Monica College

I’m from Italy Seattle Joshua Tree New Jersey Went to high school in Culver City From Venice, California. Born and raised. I’m from Malawi Brooklyn, New York Japan: Tokyo University High School, up the street Sweden Russia From a small town in Oaxaca, Mexico I was brought to the U.S. at the age of four. Coming in at SMC, I had very little thought of community colleges. But it turned out to be the best thing
that ever happened in my life. We’ve got amazing facilities and The teachers here really guide you.
The counselors here really guide you. I’m a parent of four children. I’ve been here for four years.
I get so much help. My favorite thing here at SMC has been the community and teachers and all the helpful resources. All the great professors they have.
A lot of them worked part-time here from UCLA so I’m getting exact same education
as I was there. I met a lot of professors and faculty members that
pushed me when I wanted to quit and They kept me going so that
I could successfully graduate. I am transferring to UCLA
in the major of World Arts and Culture to open my performing arts school for kids! As an international student,
I had no idea what I wanted to do. Here I am graduating with no student debt.
I have a full-time job lined up. It’s worked out pretty amazingly. Proud to be SMC! It’s actually taking me to my first internship ever
at Bixel Internship And now I have a job at Snapchat. That’s where I’m going and I’m more and more appreciative of that every day. I chose Santa Monica College when I was in Afghanistan, deployed. Now I’m looking forward towards Pepperdine and transferring down there for a
sports medicine degree. I think SMC give me a lot of opportunities
so still can find anything is possible. At first wasn’t confident and
now I became extremely confident. I think that I can achieve anything I want. I know that it was the best school for me. Proud to be SMC! SMC! On the behalf of Santa Monica College, I welcome
all of you to this year’s commencement ceremony. An event of great pride and celebration! Good evening family, friends and especially
the SMC graduating class of 2019! My challenge to you today is to take the
knowledge that you learned here at SMC and become warriors of change. And make a difference that will positively impact
the children of the future. Never forget the people who stood beside you because in the words of my hero,
nobody but nobody can make it out here alone. Thank you. Our 2019 commencement speaker:
the Honorable Alex Padilla California Secretary of State The American Dream is still alive I’m here as proof that if you’re willing to work hard
for what you believe in That you can make your life and
this world a better place It is now up to you to shape this
world and make it better for future generations. Congratulations again, class of 2019! Thank you, and God bless you. Will the graduating class please stand? It is my honor to now call forward graduating students of the class of 2019! Ladies and gentlemen, the Santa Monica College
Class of 2019!
