[MUSIC PLAYING] Today, we learned about
outstanding big news. Our endocrine and diabetes
division, our program has gone from 43 to
31 in the country based on the latest US
News World Report rankings. So in one year, we
jumped from 43 to 31. This is out of more than
1,000 hospitals, which have been ranked nationally. So that’s really a big honor. And it’s really a testament to
the team approach that we have. We have wonderful clinicians. We have wonderful nurses,
educators, nutritionists. We provide outstanding
care to the patients. Diabetes is actually not
only a United States epidemic these days. It’s actually a global epidemic. As of right now in the
US, almost 1 in 10 adults are estimated to have diabetes. A lot of them actually
don’t even know it. We have a very strong
collaborative relationship with Sentara Norfolk
General Hospital, and it involves all
different types of people. We’re doing research
in all aspects of diabetes, type 1 and
type 2, complications really in diabetes. And as vice dean
of research, I’m thrilled to see our
research accomplishments now being recognized through
these national rankings, and we can only go up from here. [MUSIC PLAYING]
