2016 Goodwill Excel Center Graduation

2016 Goodwill Excel Center Graduation

November 5, 2019 2 By Stanley Isaacs

Now it’s time for that moment we’ve all
been waiting for. Please stand for the Goodwill Excel
Center, Class of 2016! *cheering* Tonight we mark a major milestone for
these graduates. We’re celebrating what once seemed
impossible. Two years ago the opportunity for adults to complete their high school
education didn’t even exist. Last year we graduated 43 students. This year, 137! *cheering* For the decades to come, you have
changed what education will look like in Texas and in our country. To show that adult education is not only possible, but worthwhile. I’m here to tell you that
regardless of the hundreds and thousands that will come after you, here at the
Excel Center, we would all do it again just for this class here tonight. You are so valuable to us. We have been
given such an amazing opportunity to earn our diploma. It’s more than a diploma. It’s our
opportunity to Excel in life by being self-sufficient, by being an example to
our children, by helping us find careers. The best part, this opportunity was created specially
for all of us, because no matter where you come from, what background is, what
you’ve been through, Goodwill opens their arms and helps you.
There are no closed doors and they never let you fail. So here’s my list of sappy mom advice, I
guess you could call it. Number 5, dream. And don’t try, do. Number 4, find joy. I think we found some of that here
tonight. Number 3, always be yourself and always love
yourself number. Number 2, be brave. Number 1, you only get one life, live in the now
and savor every moment. It goes by way too fast. *cheering* When you persevere, when you adapt you can make it happen. can’t you? You can get there. I can’t wait, personally, to see what you
do next. It’s my honor to ask you would you
please stand. If your tassel is on the right side, which is where it’s supposed
to be, move it to the left and throw your hat
in the air! Let’s go! Ladies and gentlemen the, class of 2016!
