Lucien Anna yobo an undergraduate geology major from Cameroon we’re proud of all of you and how well that you have done one last round two students now will speak about their experiences here we will hear from a graduate student and from an undergraduate student they speak about their own experiences but they speak on behalf of all of you first I am pleased to introduce our graduate student speaker miss Melanie Gloria miss Gloria is graduating with a master of business administration and comes from Canada for those of you with long memories who are here routinely from year to year Miz Gloria spoke at this event two years ago as the undergraduate speaker since then Melanie like quite a number of international undergraduates continued her education with a master’s degree from Fresno State we thought you might like to hear Melanie’s perspective now two years later as a master’s graduate miss Gloria first of all I want to say that I’m honored to have the opportunity to speak on behalf of my fellow graduates I also want to thank all family and friends for being here on such a special occasion it seems like only yesterday I was standing here giving his speech as an undergraduate student I still can’t believe two years I’ve already gone by I went from being a student athlete to the graduate assistant coach for the women’s tennis team at first I was so excited about the opportunity I had so much experience as a college tennis player and was already friends with most of the girls on the team so I was all only for seeing a perfect two years but then of course reality sets in and challenges arise some players challenge my authority others didn’t care to listen at times because they thought they knew everything so it can be quite challenging to be in the middle of doing what your players want you to do and doing what you believe is best for them but the beauty of it all is to see your players learn grow and mature throughout the years to become better tennis players and beautiful and amazing young ladies on the academic side graduate school was more challenging compared to my undergraduate degree grad school required more group assignments and effort original research was essential in many of my projects we couldn’t get the answers from books or lectures so we had to generate the data ourselves for my final MBA project we had to do a competitive analysis for a company in Fresno the biggest challenge we encountered was to find information about the competitors which were most of them were privately owned most information is not publicly available so we had to dig deeper to find information to finish our project finding time to meet as a group was also problematic most MBA students have very busy schedules since many of them already have families and full-time jobs but no matter what experiences all of us sitting here today went through the last few years I can say for a fact that we wouldn’t change anything even the tough times because these are the moments that shaped who we are today as a graduate speaker of the international class of 2012 I want to say that has been a privilege for the last year’s to represent Fresno State to be a bulldog and to be a part of this community fellow graduates be proud of what you have accomplished take the time to enjoy this moment you currently have the tools to contribute in making this world a better place the challenge now is to know when and how to use those tools Albert Albert Einstein said it best we can solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them so graduates expand your horizons and remember that life is a continuous learning and growing process we learn from our successes and from our mistakes and no matter how challenging this world becomes never ever get discouraged because somewhere someone needs you and your unique abilities congratulations class of 2012 Thank You Melanie it is a pleasure to introduce our undergraduate speaker mr. David rasiya who graduates with a bachelor’s degree in business mr. razia comes from Sri Lanka besides keeping busy with his academics david has also served as coordinator of the international coffee hour mr. visaya thank you dr. hammer on a guess ladies and gentlemen and graduating class of 2012 it is mana to give the 2012 international commencement undergraduate speech and I thank you for the opportunity I will keep my speech short and will touch mainly upon three things the first is the economic climate under which I completed my degree the second is the sacrifices made and the relationships that helped me get here and finally about the journey ahead as a student who majored in business I have learned many aspects but what contributes to the running of a successful business I was told by my professors that probably the most important aspect other workers and happy worker is a productive worker I had like my fellow graduates today had the experience of completing my degree during the recent global financial crisis while studying almost every single day I heard many negative reports about the rising rate of unemployment the job market looking bleak and how difficult it is and sometimes nine possible to get a job or have a career at times I brushed away these comments and tended to my local academic work and at other times it was difficult not to ignore these comments about the outside world and wonder where the life of the college would be promising however through it all we have fought the naysayers and completed our degrees during one of the most extraordinary times in human history there were times when school wore me down and it was not always easy to keep going and at those times I would pray and God to make things easier I would also watch a lot of movies in my spare time in fact last summer I watched about 115 movies that’s around ten movies a week watching movie sort of gave me escape from the present circumstances and it’s something and it is something that I enjoy doing I’m sure each member of the graduating class here would have had their own way of dealing with school and life when it got tough we had people who picked us up and encouraged us to keep going there are people who sacrificed alongside us like our parents and other family members some of them here amongst us and some of them watching home on the internet and our professors who instructed motivated and encouraged us and all the support staff around campus who helped us to have a great college experience personally I would like to thank my parents and family members the international student services and programs and all the stuff of that office the faculty and staff of the Craig School of Business friends well wishes and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ just as when I first arrived at Fresno to pursue my education after today I must start all over again I am excited that no assignments would with you next week or homework to submit after three years of having assigned readings for academic purposes I might actually read something for fun one thing is for sure I have more time on my hands now as I did just before i started my degree time will tell whether i have made a wise decision by choosing to complete a degree around the time that i did I hope I made the right decision and I believe that is you hope to we can be confident we will succeed because we leave California State unity Fresno with two of the more important assets in life one is education and the others relationships to the graduating class of 2012 congratulations on a job well done and all the very best for the journey ahead thanks for listening and go dawgs thank you David it’s time now to present our graduates the focus of attention for all of us today to readers
