So what are we talking about today? As of today, I calculated that the day this video is published would be around the end of international students’ summer vacation. The internships are ending, and classes are not starting yet. And this is a very great time. So today, let’s talk about the three things interns need to do during this time. The first thing is you need to do some reflections about your experience searching for internships during the past year. What are some feedback that the market gives you? It is well-known that Studying abroad in the U.S., landing a job here, and doing internships here is not easy. And one difficult point of this “not easy” is due to the fact that many people don’t know where they at in the U.S. professional market. Therefore, your experience finding internships during the past year actually gave you many, many feed back. For example, When I was studying MBA, during my first year, it is fair to say that I was recklessly seeking for a job. I submitted countless resume but the The feedback from the market is different from how I view myself. Later, I discovered that “Oh, I see. It is like this.” For example, when I first came, I originally thought that I might be able to get into consulting, so I submitted my resume to Mckenzie, BCG, Bain, and Deloitte. I applied for them all, but I did not get a single interview. For real, not a single interview. Later I felt that my understanding of the market is different from my understanding of myself. On the contrast, applying to tech industries worked very well for me. Many companies gave me interviews, and I could reach the last few rounds of interviews most of the time. And this feedback told me that I was more competitive among MBAs in tech industries in the U.S.. Therefore, you can also take this time around the end of your internships to do some reflections about your experiences finding internships in the past year. What companies were you successful at? What were not? What were some feedback you receive? You need to think over if the feedback tells you something different from what you have believed. You need think and reflect on your past year based on the feedback you received. This is the first. Secondly, through the reflections, think about what are you strategies in the following year? If it is your last year, basically, when school starts, campus recruitment and full-time recruitment are coming. So you don’t have any time to take risks. At this time, it is important for you to think about the strategies you are using to land a job, or even a full-time job based on the feedback of the prior year. Maybe you may find out that, “Oh, I have advantages in this area, and I am interested in that field, so is there an intersection area where I am interested and have advantages in? You really want to work in this intersection area, so this can be your main attack point. So you can say that, “Why don’t I try them all?” However, our energy is not limitless. I talked about this before in a video about how I manage my time. Y’all can take a look. It talked about many of my experiences. So because your have limited energy, once you spend your energy and time on somewhere, you can’t spend them on elsewhere. So you need to have a strategy. This strategy needs to be ready in September, before campus recruitment. What is your highest priority? In other words, when the opportunities of this job come, you would spare no effort to pursue it Trying your best to build networks and revise your resumes. And spend enough effort as needed to prepare for your interview. Do tons of mock interview. And what are some jobs that are not that important but they are worth a try? You can also make an attempt on this as well. What are some other kinds? They are those you should not attempt to and should not spend your time on. You must prepared this strategy before campus recruitment. Think before. In this case, when the opportunities come, you will be ready and confident to hit it and conquer them. This is second point. The third point is to network and socialize locally. This time is a good time for you to network. Why? Because you are doing internship not going to classes and your internship is about to end. At this time, you have some time at your hands. If, you are interning at your targeting destination. For example, your school is in Atlanta and you are interning in the Bay Area. So before you fly back to Atlanta, socialize and network in the Bay Area. Contact the acquaintances, alumni, and classmates here. This is a very important and great time. Network well locally. Once you go back, this thing will be difficult to do. You can only call them or even consider to fly here. So this is something worthwhile to do. Moreover, based on my experience, for example, if you and me are both local, if you contact me, I may say that “oh I am quite busy lately. Shall we wait for a bit?” But if I know that, you came all the way from outside to intern here and maybe you are leaving soon. In this case I might say that, “ooo, if I don’t take this chance to talk to him/her, share my experience, and help him/her, maybe I won’t have this opportunity in the future. Therefore, I would feel that as someone being contacted, I would be more willing to talk to you. Therefore, this is actually a very good opportunity to build some good networks locally. Alright. To sum up, international students need to do three things before summer ends. First, reflect on your successes and losses this year, especially focusing on the feedback from the market. Second, based Based on this feedback, think about the future job seeking process. What strategy are you using? What are your priorities and what are not? Third, build good local networks at where you are interning before you go back. Ok. This is the end to our video today. As you can see, this video is shorter than the previous ones. And this is a result of many feedback I received. Our video will be more compacted, hoping that you guys can acquire more information in a shorter amount of time. Ok. I will see you next time. Please remember to like and subscribe. Bye-Bye.
